There are a lot of web design agencies out there. Most of them were started by someone who took an online course, bought a Squarespace template, and hung out a shingle. We are not that.
Kalson Media was founded by someone who was helping shape the internet before most people knew what the internet was.
Our Story
In the early days of the internet — before Google was a household name, before social media existed, before smartphones were even a concept — our founder and CEO Laura Carson was already in the game.
Laura worked on a beta test team for Google in the 1990s, back when the search engine that would eventually change everything was still finding its footing. That early, behind the scenes exposure to how search engines think, how they crawl, and how they rank content did not just inform her approach to SEO — it became the foundation of everything Kalson Media is built on.
While others were still figuring out what a website was, Laura was learning web development and digital marketing in Atlanta, GA and building websites for Charleston businesses as early as 1998. Kalson Media was officially established in 1999 and has been going strong ever since.
That is 27 years of hands on experience navigating every shift the web has thrown at us — from Netscape browsers, ICQ, and AOL chat rooms to today’s AI powered, mobile first, voice searched, algorithm driven digital world.

Two Locations, One Commitment
Charleston, SC has been home base since 1998. We have deep roots in the Lowcountry and serve businesses throughout the entire Charleston tri-county area — Charleston County, Berkeley County, and Dorchester County.
In 2022 we expanded to Huntsville, AL — and one visit in August of that year was all it took. Laura knew immediately that the Rocket City was the next chapter for Kalson Media. The Huntsville business community has been incredibly welcoming and we have built a full book of business in North Alabama in a remarkably short time.
